Students can request temporary access to your course in three ways:
1. | By selecting the “I want to request Temporary Access” option when creating a new web platform account: |
2. | Within an existing web platform account by going to the course settings page, and pressing Request Temporary Access: |
3. | Within an existing web platform account by pressing +Add Course from the Dashboard and selecting Request Temporary Access: |
Enabling Temporary Access
The option to receive temporary access will be enabled by default for your students if you enter current course start and end dates when creating or editing a section under Tools > Manage Sections (or Manage Instructors/Sections for Course Administrators).
You can check to see if temporary access is enabled by going to Tools > Manage Temporary Access Codes. Students will be able to receive temporary access to your course within two weeks of the course start date entered here. If no start and end dates are entered, students will not be able to receive temporary access to your course.
Note: Students will receive 10 days of temporary access for summer or quarter terms and 20 days of temporary access for full semester courses.
Once the first student is given temporary access, the course start and end dates will be locked. Course Administrators have the option to lock start and end dates manually by selecting the checkbox in the Locked column for a section.
The “Number of Temporary Access Codes” column indicates the number of students in a section who have already received temporary access. You can view which students specifically have temporary access by going to Tools > Manage Students. Underneath the Code Status column for the student, the status will read as Temporary. If the temporary code has expired, the status will read as Inactive. Further, the Code Expiration column will display when the code will expire or previously expired.
Bulk Changes
If you have many sections that you would like to make changes for at once or are a Course Administrator making changes for many instructors at once, it may be helpful to use the Make Bulk Changes option. To use this option, press Show next to Make Bulk Changes, select the sections for which you would like to make bulk changes, enter the desired changes, and press Save Changes.
Course Administrators
Course Administrators have an Instructor filter that they can use to switch back and forth between viewing different instructors’ sections. They also have the option to view all instructors’ sections at once by choosing “- -All Instructors- -” from the drop-down.
